Each year, state and federal government agencies award more than 100,000 education grants each year, total more than $6.5 billion. These grants are provided to individual public and private schools, charter schools, school districts, community colleges, universities, nonprofit organizations and community-based coalitions and consortiums. Education grants are provided for the purpose of improving specific educational outcomes among a target population.
Other than those awarded to private schools and charter schools, few--if any--education grants are awarded directly to for-profit businesses.
